This Week’s Events!

April 20, 2015

This week, our team will be attending 2 of this year’s biggest events within Geographic Information Systems Technology and Engineering. If you happen to be at this year’s annual AASHTO Geographic Information Transportation Symposium over the next few days, be sure to stop by Booth’s 1 & 2 and say hi!
Our team will also be at this year’s NACE today and tomorrow in Daytona Beach, Florida. We will be at Booth 740 as well as a sponsor of tonight’s networking social event so be sure to stop by.

Another big announcement this week is that Wednesday, April 22nd is EARTH DAY!

Earth-Day-hands Some of you might not know this, but Earth Day was first celebrates April 22, 1970 and was founded by Gaylord Nelson, a U.S Senator at the time. Earth Day was created to encourage everyone to stop, take a look around and absorb the beautiful nature around them. It is a day to increase awareness of the human impact on our world and take initiatives to improve how we interact with nature. In 2012, 100,000 people rode their bikes in China to reduce the CO2 emission and conserve fuel. It is apparent that CO2 emissions and air pollution can greatly damage our environment and can lead to major, sometimes nearly irreversible issues such as: floods, droughts and wildfires. These environmental disasters often require extensive (and expensive) repair of infrastructure like homes, bridges and roadways.

Unfortunately we cannot force every person on this planet to do their part in protecting Mother Earth and reducing their carbon footprints, however, if we have the right resources, we can do our best to manage our infrastructure assets to keep them in good condition and safe for use even if impacted by natural disasters. By utilizing an asset management system, your community can prepare for these types of occurrences and plan accordingly. These systems help keep physical assets in prime condition to avoid potential dangers such as gas and oil leaks that can cause a great deal of damage to the world around us.

On this Earth Day we ask you to please be aware of how you interact with nature and do your part in taking care of the beauty around you!

A New Board Member for FPZA!

February 16, 2015

DTS would like to congratulate our very own Daniel Behnke, GISP, Director of Asset Management Operations, who has recently been nominated for a two year term as an Executive Member of the Central Florida chapter of the Florida Planning and Zoning Association (FPZA). The Florida Planning and Zoning Association has more than 1,000 members, planning consultants, architects, engineers, civic leaders, bankers, attorneys, realtors, appraisers and staff members of county and municipal departments, boards and commissions. The Association is dedicated to seeking and applying solutions for Florida’s Planning and Zoning issues and provides a great networking opportunity for those in the planning and development industry to promote new ideas, technology and practices.

The executive board members meet each quarter and support planning and AICP credit opportunities for the Central Florida Region. Each year the Association puts on “Plantoberfest” in October to celebrate Planners and their achievements.
