Corey Durno - Field Operator/ Mobile Asset Collection
Background
Corey began his interest in geospatial technology by using marine and handheld GPS devices while enjoying leisurely activities. His strong interests in environmental issues, GIS, and earth sciences led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in Geography. He is currently the Data Collection Operator for our Mobile Asset Collection vehicle. The vehicle collects pavement conditions, Right of Way, and has the ability to use LiDAR in supporting roadway design, resurfacing, and safety-related analysis. When not traveling for a work assignment, Corey is a community volunteer with the Surfrider Foundation, JDRF, March of Dimes, and the I2Y Cancer Foundation. In the future, Corey plans to pursue his GIS Professional Certification where he can further apply his knowledge in the geospatial field.
Philosophy
GIS is by no means an easy subject to learn and understand because it is ever-expanding. Innovations in high-tech GPS devices and cameras have allowed people to map the world by air, land, and sea. Quality data is hard to capture because most GIS software applications and devices are not designed for ease of use but rather functionality. How good is something that you can’t use or understand? My goal is to collect the most detailed information that you need for your project and have it displayed with our user-friendly viewing application. I believe that any project can be achieved with a solid team and a willingness to learn our planet as you’ve never seen it before.
