DTS was contracted to enhance the WICHway.org website that serves as a localized 511 information system for the Wichita metropolitan area. Daily commuters, out-of-towners, truck drivers and others use the site to track road conditions and to make travel decisions. KDOT wanted a number of further enhancements along with a redesign of the site to make it more appealing and user friendly.
DTS application developers overhauled the site, which now provides a map of the greater Wichita area with the latest travel speeds, road conditions and construction along the network. It also shares information from 38 near real-time camera feeds, 43 traffic sensors and the messages posted on 21 electronic message signs along heavily-traveled roads. One of the most popular aspects of the redesign is that the site is now designed to respond to smaller screens such as smartphones and tablets, making it the first of its kind.
