The Port of Long Beach is the premier U.S. gateway for trans-Pacific trade and a trailblazer in innovative goods movement, safety, environmental stewardship and sustainability. The Port handles trade valued at $200 billion annually and supports 2.6 million jobs across the nation, more than 575,000 in Southern California, and more than 50,000 jobs—or 1 in 5—in Long Beach.
With this level of volume, the Port needs to make sure their assets, ranging from HVAC systems and generators to docks and piers, are maintained and fully operational. We were selected to implement VUEWorks, a web-enabled integrated GIS solution that tracks conditions, minimizes failure risk and optimizes expenditures and service deliveries of physical assets.
We configured VUEWorks to collect and manage the Port’s assets, digitizing the data that was stored across multiple locations. The live production environment manages common assets, as well as some exclusive assets to the industry. Custom reporting provides data grouped and displayed according to the Port’s unique requirements.
We also incorporated our mobile solutions, enabling field staff to complete workflow tasks efficiently which maximized resource availability. For example, CitizenVUE was deployed for the Wharfinger Maintenance Team to capture mobile service requests. We included WorkforceVUE which supports tracking and completion of work orders in the field. Additionally, this mobile application captures and maintains asset data within the administrative facilities at the Port.
The Port was well organized and so was the data, which helped keep the project moving despite 2020’s challenges. Our specialized online training platform, VUEniversity, replaced on-site training for field staff during COVID travel bans. This self-paced, remote learning management system offered virtual VUEWorks training courses through a web-based platform when in-person training was not possible.
Through VUEWorks, we delivered and configured a work management system that overcame data silos, manual processes and limited visibility.
