The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) formed a core asset management group several years ago to promote the establishment of an asset management program within the Department. Led by the Division of Maintenance, the core group included members representing the GIS, IT, Planning, Environmental, Design, Construction and Financial Management offices. RIDOT selected VUEWorks® asset management software to capture all of its assets, monitor inventory, rate the condition of assets and create needed reports. VUEWorks®, LLC is the asset management subsidiary of DTS.

RIDOT has begun implementing VUEWorks® and now uses the Service Request module to track complaints and requests from citizens, Transportation Management Center dispatchers, the customer service unit and logged calls to district facilities. The Work Order module is then used to convert service requests to work orders whenever a task needs to be performed. And RIDOT uses the Resource Manager module to track employee time as well as equipment and materials used. VUEWorks® has enabled RIDOT to implement systematic planning and scheduling of work, organize work efforts, improve communication and project coordination, eliminate duplication of efforts and track critical data.
